The Duskbloods will no longer launch in 2026. FromSoftware has moved its Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive to 2027 while it refines the game’s rules and balance after an August network test.

The delay means the studio’s new player-versus-player-versus-environment game will miss its previously announced release window. It also avoids a crowded November launch period that includes Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6.

Why The Duskbloods was delayed

FromSoftware said feedback from the August 2026 network test showed strong interest in the game’s direct combat, strategic depth and opportunities for player expression. The extra development time will be used for final adjustments to the rules and balancing, with the goal of improving the overall player experience.

FromSoftware said the test demonstrated active interest in the game’s core concepts, including direct combat, strategic depth and player expression. The studio is now taking additional time to enhance those elements and make final changes to the rules and balance.

The developer apologised to players waiting for the game and thanked them for their patience and understanding.

A separate message shared with followers on X explained that the revised schedule would help the team deliver the game’s central idea at a higher level: combat supported by varied manoeuvres and multiple strategies.

What is The Duskbloods?

The Duskbloods is a new multiplayer project from the developer of Elden Ring and Bloodborne. It uses a PvPvE structure in which characters known as Bloodsworn battle both monsters and rival players during online matches.

Rather than following the familiar loop of pushing through difficult areas, dying and trying again, the game is built around match-based competition. Eight players compete for victory points called Virtue, with more than one route available to claim victory.

The project will be FromSoftware’s first new game since Elden Ring Nightreign, released the previous year. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has said he hopes the design creates “unexpected drama”. A limited network test recently gave selected players an early look at the cast and mechanics.
