Promotional activity for Grand Theft Auto 6 is spreading across Miami, the real-world inspiration for the game’s fictional Vice City. The campaign reportedly includes branded beach furniture, blimps and an NBA tie-in.
One worker involved in setting up the beach advertising says he lost his job after posting an early glimpse of the campaign’s Vice City branding.
Beach chairs and umbrellas spark online spread
Earlier this month, video footage and screenshots began spreading on social media showing GTA 6– and Vice City-branded chairs and umbrellas on a Miami beach.
The material appears to be part of a wider marketing push taking place throughout the city. Graham Simmon, a TikTok user who says he helped install the advertising, later explained what happened in a follow-up video.
Worker says the post led to his dismissal
Simmon said he had uploaded a video of himself unboxing the GTA 6 chairs, umbrellas and cabanas on the beach. He said the clip had fewer than 1,000 views when he was told to remove it.
Other users then reposted the footage across Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, where it gained wider attention. Simmon says his employer was unhappy with the disclosure and subsequently fired him.
“So yeah, basically GTA 6 cost me my job,” Simmon said.
He said he was new to the role and had not been told that recording or sharing the beach furniture was prohibited. In the description accompanying his explanation, Simmon accepted that he was at fault and said he was not blaming the company, describing the incident as a funny story instead.
The episode highlights how quickly physical game advertising can travel online, particularly when fans are watching closely for new details. RETROCADE covers the wider arcade and gaming news landscape, including the promotional ideas that help games become real-world attractions.
