After months of speculation about a surprise third trailer, Rockstar Games has confirmed the next major look at Grand Theft Auto VI. An extended video will premiere for Netflix subscribers on August 27, before reaching Rockstar’s own online channels later that day.
Netflix gets the first viewing
The extended look is scheduled to debut on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, August 27. Netflix describes the arrangement as a first-of-its-kind partnership with Rockstar Games, linking the next entry in the blockbuster series with the streaming service’s expanding ambitions in original and cross-platform storytelling.
The timing also highlights the long gap since Grand Theft Auto V launched. The new game arrives 13 years after its predecessor, which debuted during the same period that Netflix was beginning its major push into original programming.
Rockstar has also confirmed that the video will be available publicly at 9 p.m. ET through its official YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website. The studio shared the announcement on August 6, 2026.
What will the extended footage show?
For now, Rockstar has not revealed the length of the Netflix presentation or explained which parts of the game it will cover. A countdown is already in place, but fans hoping for an earlier surprise trailer may have to wait until the scheduled premiere.
Netflix vice-president of nonfiction series Brandon Riegg said the anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented and described the partnership as an opportunity to introduce the next part of the series’ story to Netflix members first.
A different marketing pattern for Rockstar
Rockstar has previously arranged hands-off media previews several months before launching major titles. A timeline shared by journalist Stephen Totilo compares the build-up to Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 with the current campaign: GTA V had hands-off previews in May 2013, hands-on previews in September and a September 17 release, while Red Dead Redemption 2 followed with previews in May and September 2018 before launching on October 26.
By comparison, Grand Theft Auto VI has had no comparable preview events so far. Public information has largely come from two trailers and descriptions of pre-order and Deluxe Edition bonuses. Take-Two Interactive previously indicated that marketing would increase during the northern-hemisphere summer.
The currently stated release date is November 19, 2026, leaving open the possibility of further announcements, media events or creator previews before launch. No such hands-on sessions have been confirmed.
