Grand Theft Auto 6 has turned a gameplay presentation into a global streaming hit, with its Netflix showcase reaching No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries tracked.
GTA 6 makes a major Netflix impression
After 13 years of anticipation, Rockstar’s next open-world crime game is attracting attention well beyond traditional games coverage. Leaks had already given fans glimpses ahead of the official reveals, while released footage has suggested that GTA 6 could be the most violent entry in the series so far. Reports have also claimed that its map may be around three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2’s playable world, and demand has reportedly contributed to sharply higher PlayStation 5 Pro prices.
That level of interest helped Rockstar’s latest presentation find an unusually large audience. More than 31.1 million people watched Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look within just a few days of its release on Netflix.
The nearly 27-minute showcase, which premiered on Netflix the previous week, led the English film chart in 87 of the 93 territories included in the global ranking. Netflix’s Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is, in effect, an extended game trailer, making its chart performance particularly notable. The presentation has also been uploaded to YouTube, where it has passed 17 million views.

What the extended showcase reveals
The new presentation is substantially longer than the two trailers released previously, giving viewers a clearer look at the world, characters and activities planned for Rockstar’s next adventure.
A much larger world than Vice City alone
Vice City remains central, but it is only one part of the playable setting. Rockstar says the overall map will be roughly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2’s playable area. The footage moves through the city, beaches, countryside and a Florida-inspired wilderness filled with wildlife, offering a better impression of the game’s scale.
Detail, physics and destruction
Rockstar is pursuing a high level of visual and environmental detail. Clothing responds naturally to movement, characters show individual hair strands and visible perspiration, and reflections change with their surroundings.
The footage also appears to fulfil a long-standing promise of more meaningful destruction. In one confrontation, two characters crash through a wall. Elsewhere, dust, rubble and bottles react to the action, suggesting that the environment will respond more dynamically to violence and movement.

Jason and Lucia’s changing relationship
Jason and Lucia appear to have more freedom than the earlier trailers indicated. The game brings back the protagonist-switching system used in GTA 5, although some scripted story moments will restrict players to a particular character.
Their relationship also seems to be a larger part of the story. Players may be able to develop a romance between the pair, while the footage suggests that keeping their connection platonic could also be possible.
Activities, vehicles and classic GTA oddness
The showcase includes beach pastimes, scooters, dirt bikes, sports cars and skydiving, alongside a wide range of eccentric Vice City residents. One especially unexpected detail shows that players can hug a dog.
Despite the amount of footage Rockstar has now released, one major subject remains unclear: GTA Online. The studio has not officially explained whether GTA 6 will include an online component, even though the existing game’s online mode has been enormously successful.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19. Rockstar has not announced a PC version.
