Bloodborne remains a PlayStation 4 exclusive, but its planned animated film is continuing to take shape. Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin is producing the R-rated project with PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation.

In an interview with IGN, McLoughlin said the production is considerably further along than when it was announced at CinemaCon in April. The team has mapped out more of the story, and key people are now attached to help bring the film together.
McLoughlin said he would prefer to reveal more when the project is ready, adding that future updates should identify the people involved and offer small hints about the story’s direction.
No director or wider cast has been publicly identified in the update. McLoughlin did, however, indicate that more announcements should arrive sooner rather than later.
What story will the Bloodborne film tell?
Specific plot details remain under wraps. McLoughlin said the production is focused on respecting the world and setting of Bloodborne, while acknowledging the difficulty of adapting such a significant game property. His aim is to pursue a carefully considered interpretation rather than rush the project towards release.
He also suggested the film may not recreate the game’s storyline scene for scene. Instead, the team appears interested in telling another tale within the same universe. McLoughlin pointed to Fallout and Resident Evil as examples of adaptations that have used their source worlds without simply repeating the games.
That approach could suit Bloodborne. Much of its fiction is communicated through item descriptions, environmental clues and implication, leaving space for a new narrative to explore Yharnam and its mysteries without duplicating the player’s journey.

Other FromSoftware adaptations in development
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring are also receiving screen adaptations.
- Sekiro: No Defeat is an anime series produced by Qzil.la and directed by Kenichi Kutsuna. A theatrical cut opened in Japanese cinemas on 4 September, while the eight-episode series is scheduled for a worldwide streaming debut on Crunchyroll in January 2027.
- A24 is producing an Elden Ring film directed by Alex Garland, whose credits include Civil War and Annihilation. Early reports put the budget at $200 million, potentially making it A24’s most expensive film. Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny and Nick Offerman are attached in undisclosed roles, with an Australian cinema release currently scheduled for 3 March 2028.
