Nintendo’s Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console briefly returned to the company’s online store on Thursday, 29 October 2026, but stock disappeared again soon after. The limited-edition hardware launched at US$519.99 and has been difficult to secure since pre-orders opened in early September.

Demand was heavy enough to affect the Nintendo online store, with availability changing rapidly. Customers checking the listing shortly after the restock announcement were met with an out-of-stock message. Nintendo’s official store listing remains the most relevant place to monitor the product.

What makes the Zelda Switch 2 special?
The console was first revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation in September. Its black, gold and green finish draws on The Legend of Zelda’s visual identity, including Link and the Triforce of Courage.
The matching Joy-Con controllers and console feature groups of triangular decals around a Triforce emblem and the Hylian Crest. It is a themed hardware release rather than a standard Switch 2 colour option, which helps explain the strong collector interest.

Other Zelda 40th Anniversary hardware
Nintendo also released a Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Pro Controller for US$99.99. That is US$10 more than a standard Pro Controller, and the special edition controller is currently listed as sold out.
A Zelda-themed carrying case and screen protector were released alongside the console, although no new stock of those accessories appeared to be available at the time of the restock.

Can you still pre-order the console?
At the time covered here, major US retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart also appeared to be sold out of the Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition. The Nintendo store restock therefore offered only a short purchasing window before availability ended again.
Anyone considering a dedicated gaming setup while waiting for limited hardware can use RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide to compare cabinet formats, controls and room requirements. Replacement joysticks, buttons and other components are also collected in the arcade parts range.

For now, the key detail is timing: Nintendo replenished the Zelda-themed Switch 2 hardware, but the renewed supply sold through quickly, just as the initial pre-orders had done.
