Like a Dragon has repeatedly returned to Kamurocho, the series’ fictionalised take on Tokyo’s Kabukicho district. Now, fans can explore a block of that familiar setting through an entirely different platform: Roblox.

Yakuza Blocks: Like a Dragon is an officially licensed multiplayer Roblox experience from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. It recreates Tenkaichi Street in Kamurocho and turns the setting into a shared online environment where players can fight, develop their characters and take part in activities inspired by the series.

Street fights, Heat Actions and character growth

Combat is central to the experience. Players can get involved in street fights, use several fighting styles and improve their abilities as they progress. Experience earned through battles can be assigned across three attributes: Mind, Technique and Body.

The fighting also incorporates the franchise’s recognisable Heat Action mechanics. Away from combat, players can try minigames based on the many side activities that have appeared throughout the Yakuza and Like a Dragon games.

Players can play Yakuza Blocks: Like a Dragon on Roblox, while a separate community link is available for those who want to follow its player base and ongoing discussions.

A licensed Roblox project with room to grow

Roblox specialist GeekOut developed the game and intends to expand it in response to player feedback and activity. The experience also includes microtransactions, including costumes for Kiryu and other characters.

Those outfits give the familiar cast the deliberately blocky appearance associated with Roblox avatars. Their sales may also influence how the project develops in the future.

Why bring Like a Dragon to Roblox?

Like a Dragon is not the first major entertainment franchise to receive a Roblox adaptation. Properties including Attack on Titan and One Piece have also appeared on the platform.

Although Roblox is strongly associated with younger players, many adults who grew up with the service still use it. The company has responded by introducing more mature experiences in recent years. Even so, Yakuza Blocks is not classified as a mature experience, despite the console games traditionally targeting an adult audience.

The crossover may therefore serve two purposes: giving established fans a new way to visit Kamurocho while introducing the franchise to Roblox players who have not yet tried the main games. Whether the audiences substantially overlap remains uncertain, but Sega will presumably be hoping the project helps broaden awareness of the series.
