Grand Theft Auto 6 fans have been waiting for the next major video since Trailer 2 arrived in May 2025. More than a year later, a few unusual clues have reignited speculation that Rockstar could be preparing another reveal in August.
A leaker points to August
The latest round of excitement began on July 28, when industry leaker NateTheHate answered questions on Twitter. Asked whether he knew anything about GTA 6, he avoided sharing specific details but offered a carefully worded hint: I expect to see a fair bit of GTA 6 next month.
He later clarified that “next month” meant August. That was enough to send the GTA community searching for signs of an approaching trailer, gameplay video or other marketing announcement.
Website activity adds to the speculation
The theory gained another talking point on Wednesday, when GTA community creator and resource site iGrandTheftAuto reported several backend changes on the official Grand Theft Auto 6 website.
“There’s now been 3 minor updates to the website today,” tweeted iGrandTheftAuto. The account described the activity as unusual and advised fans to watch Rockstar and the GTA 6 website, while stressing that there were no guarantees of an imminent announcement.
When followers asked whether similar changes had appeared before the cover reveal and pre-order announcement in June, iGrandTheftAuto said they had detected comparable activity one day beforehand. That may suggest work is underway, but it does not confirm that Trailer 3 is next.
Fans find clues everywhere
As usual, the rumour quickly spread through the community. People began posting memes about “hopium”, along with arguments between fans convinced that Trailer 3 was close and those tired of speculation.
Another theory focused on a video uploaded by Rotten Tomatoes’ gaming YouTube channel. People noticed that Rotten Tomatoes’ gaming YouTube channel just uploaded GTA 6 trailer two and interpreted its comments as potentially coy. The simpler explanation is that the channel was using renewed interest in GTA 6 to support a rebrand or relaunch. Still, some fans treated it as another piece of the puzzle.
Why the Take-Two call matters
The strongest timing argument centres on Take-Two’s next investor call is on August 7. If Rockstar released Trailer 3 in the days beforehand, the announcement could help set the scene for that business update.
Take-Two and Rockstar have previously placed marketing activity near investor calls. Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick also said earlier this year that the GTA 6 marketing campaign would begin in summer, giving fans another reason to watch the calendar.
What is likely to happen next?
None of these clues proves that Trailer 3 is imminent. Website adjustments can support routine work, social-media posts can be misread, and unrelated channels can benefit from the attention surrounding a major game.
However, Rockstar will need to increase its public marketing for a release as significant as GTA 6. The game is scheduled to launch on November 19, leaving a limited window for additional trailers, gameplay footage and other announcements. A delay remains possible in theory, although it currently appears unlikely.
For readers following the wider arcade and gaming news, the lesson is familiar: online clues can reveal that something is being prepared, but they cannot establish what Rockstar will announce or when it will happen. Trailer 3 could arrive soon, but fans will need an official confirmation before treating the latest theories as fact.
