Warcraft 3: Reforged is receiving a substantial surprise update, bringing a new story campaign, refreshed visuals and additional features to Blizzard’s troubled real-time strategy remake.
Forsaken Kingdom revisits Lordaeron’s fall
Named Forsaken Kingdom, the campaign explores the aftermath of Arthas’ assault on Lordaeron. Arthas and Sylvanas are central to the story, while players will encounter recognisable factions and locations including the Undercity, the Scarlet Crusade and Naxxramas.
The expansion is planned to deliver more than 30 hours of gameplay. It also introduces the Forsaken Paladin as a new neutral hero, alongside improvements to the World Editor, feature adjustments and enhanced graphics.
Graphics and feature update is free
Following the opening ceremonies, every player will receive the major graphics and feature update at no cost. The Forsaken Kingdom campaign is separate from that free upgrade, and must be purchased either on its own or within a bundle.
A surprising second chapter for Reforged
Released in 2020 as a complete remake of the original Warcraft 3, Reforged endured a difficult launch. Bugs, missing features from the classic release and technical changes frustrated many long-time players, contributing to a strongly negative reception.
Blizzard has addressed some of those complaints over time, but the game appeared likely to be left behind as the company moved on. The arrival of a large new campaign therefore comes as an unexpected development for players who have continued to follow its progress.
