Walmart customers waiting for the Triforce-themed Nintendo Switch 2 have encountered more trouble as launch day arrives. After some pre-orders were cancelled on October 28, stores are now reportedly warning staff about delayed deliveries and missing stock ahead of next week’s Ocarina of Time remake.

An internal memo shared online tells Walmart employees that some locations may not receive the Zelda Edition consoles on October 29 because of a supply-chain delay. Staff have been asked to maintain “consistent communication” with affected customers while their orders remain in transit.

The memo also addresses consoles that have already reached stores. Employees attempting to scan the systems are reportedly encountering a point-of-sale block and have been instructed not to bypass it. That restriction is expected to remain until at least November 6—one week after the announced launch date—to help Walmart complete pre-orders.

A customer account shared on Reddit described arriving at a Walmart at 6 a.m. and being told that three consoles in stock could not be scanned. Waiting until the electronics department opened at 7 a.m. did not resolve the problem; an employee then provided the internal memo. The customer suggested similar issues may be affecting other retailers, including Target. The discussion is available in this Walmart shopper notice, posted by u/AtLastGames in the zelda community.

Meanwhile, Walmart buyers continue to report cancellations on launch day. Other customers are finding that consoles physically held at stores cannot be sold while the register block remains active, making an in-person replacement difficult to secure. Further reports describe customers being told that cancellations resulted from a vague “store issue”.

One customer was later contacted by Walmart’s online delivery department and told that the company had secured their Switch 2 for pickup. Whether those replacement orders can be collected without encountering the same scanning restriction remains unclear. Another customer account describes being hit with cancellations even on launch day.
