Valve Warns European Steam Hardware Customers After CEVA Cyberattack

Valve is contacting an unknown number of Steam customers after CEVA Logistics, its European shipping partner for Steam hardware, suffered a cyberattack in late July.

What happened to CEVA Logistics?

Reports from affected Steam users on ResetEra and Reddit describe emails from Valve explaining the incident.

Valve says CEVA was compromised sometime between 29 July and 1 August 2026. The company says it became aware of the attack on 7 August. Dutch news outlet NOS reported that Bol and De Bijenkorf had been notified about the attack on 1 August.

Which customer details may be exposed?

Valve’s email says that Steam accounts and other purchase information were not affected. However, it warns that customer names, email addresses, phone numbers and delivery addresses may have been compromised.

Valve identifies CEVA as the company responsible for shipping Steam hardware to customers in Europe. That means the warning appears to be focused on European customers who purchased Valve hardware, rather than the entire Steam user base.

Why older orders may be involved

CEVA reportedly keeps customer information for up to 90 days after an order. On that basis, European customers who bought Steam hardware from late April 2026 onwards may potentially be affected.

Valve is warning customers to be alert for fake emails, text messages and phone calls referring to a hardware order. Scammers may pretend to represent Steam, Valve or a delivery company, so customers should avoid opening unexpected links or sharing personal information in response.

How many customers are affected?

Neither Valve nor CEVA Logistics has publicly confirmed the total number of affected customers. At present, Valve appears to be notifying potentially impacted users directly rather than issuing a broad public statement.
