With Grand Theft Auto 6 scheduled to arrive on November 19, fans are already planning how to make time for Rockstar’s long-awaited sequel. At Fort Stewart in Georgia, some US Army soldiers have been offered a particularly unusual way to secure four uninterrupted days with the game.

The offer comes from the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion, part of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division. Eligible soldiers who sign a reenlistment contract between August 1 and November 14 can qualify for a four-day pass timed around the game’s release.

The incentive requires a commitment of at least two additional years in the military. It began circulating through an internal memo and was later confirmed as legitimate by Army officials.

Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, a spokesperson for the 3rd Infantry Division, told PCMag that 20 of the 120 eligible soldiers had chosen the incentive as of Wednesday. Tomko also explained to PC Gamer that the programme is exclusive to the 3rd Infantry Division rather than an Army-wide policy.

A creative retention strategy

The idea reportedly came from a new career counsellor searching for a fresh approach to the unit’s fiscal 2027 reenlistment targets. The unusual reward reflects the effort to connect retention campaigns with soldiers’ personal interests.

Unconventional reenlistment events are not without precedent. Army officials have previously highlighted ceremonies involving tanks, helicopters, NFL teams and scenic destinations. More traditional retention incentives include cash bonuses, education opportunities and preferred assignments.

GTA 6 launch details and fresh leaks

Rockstar is also building anticipation before launch. Netflix is due to receive a six-hour exclusive window on August 27 featuring an extended look at GTA 6, before that footage is distributed more widely through YouTube and social media.

The game has simultaneously faced another wave of alleged leaks. A hacker using the name Cyberleek has circulated purported gameplay showing flights over Vice City, fights, tasers and other previously unseen material. The hacker has threatened further releases while objecting to the game’s digital-only launch.
