The story also follows the X-Men as they protect Cyclops’ wife, Madelyne Pryor, from the Marauders. Later stories reveal that Madelyne is a clone of Jean Grey created by Sinister. That revelation contributes to her breakdown and eventual rise as the Goblin Queen.
Sinister’s interest in the Summers family extends to Cyclops’ son, Cable, a mutant soldier whose story has not yet been explored in an X-Men film. Those connections help explain why this single issue carries so much significance for readers watching Marvel’s next adaptation.
