Isekai stories usually lose me at the premise: an ordinary person is transported to another world and must adapt to a new reality. That formula appears everywhere across anime, manga and Asian television, but Truck-kun Is Supporting Me from Another World?! finds a gleefully ridiculous way to make it work.
Strange Scaffold’s game casts you as a delivery driver who accidentally runs over Carissa Ward, an ambitious executive moments before she is due to receive a promotion. Carissa is sent to a fantasy world, but instead of disappearing from the story, she becomes a voice in your ear. Her message is simple: do not ruin her promotion, and help her get back home.
Carissa’s truck-related arrival in the fantasy world is a playful spin on the familiar isekai setup, where a traffic accident often begins the protagonist’s journey. Here, the joke becomes the entire gameplay loop.
Driving on one side, dungeon crawling on the other
Carissa needs to grow stronger by battling monsters in her new world. You support her from the city by hitting pedestrians and objects with your delivery truck, sending enemies her way and helping charge her abilities.
Her progress appears in a small interface bar, so you never have to manage the fantasy adventure directly. Smashing objects powers up Carissa’s sword, while an occasional button press can trigger her ultimate attack. Your actual responsibility is driving, and that is where the game is at its best.
The bright kei truck is wonderfully cheerful despite its appalling purpose. It is also far easier to control than the vehicles in more simulation-focused games such as Forza Horizon. This is closer to Crazy Taxi than a serious driving simulator: accelerate, drift, boost and cause as much mayhem as possible.
A shoulder-button sideswipe lets you knock into objects to charge Carissa’s weapon. It can also help you escape the police, who arrive to interrupt your Twisted Metal-style rampage. Ramps launch the truck into the air, boost pads provide extra speed, and scattered rings appear to exist mainly for the pleasure of flying through them. Passing through one triggers a wide cinematic camera angle that recalls The Fast and the Furious.
For readers who enjoy arcade driving, the uncomplicated handling is the main attraction. The same appeal can be found in dedicated racing arcade machines, where quick reactions and satisfying movement matter more than realistic vehicle physics.
A funny idea with limited road space
The main weakness is the driving environment. There is only one map, and once its layout becomes familiar, many objectives can be completed almost automatically. Tasks such as drifting for ten seconds or hitting 30 objects do not offer much variety after the initial novelty fades.
The game could also have borrowed more from Tony Hawk. The truck can jump, but trick inputs using stick movements or button combinations might have added another layer of arcade expression. More maps and a broader selection of challenges would have made the driving system feel considerably more substantial.
Still, the compact scope is easier to accept at the full price of $20. Truck-kun Is Supporting Me from Another World?! is a short, focused and funny driving game that turns an isekai convention into a reason to speed through a city, smash everything in sight and keep a fantasy hero levelled up.
It may not convert every isekai sceptic, but its unusual structure keeps the genre’s more frustrating elements at arm’s length.
