Touch Magix has released SpaceWarp 66 v4.0, a software update that introduces live linked play for two cabinets at the same family entertainment centre.
Linked multiplayer is an unusual feature for a video redemption game. Multiple redemption machines are often placed together in a bank, but their games generally remain separate, aside from features such as a shared jackpot. SpaceWarp 66 now lets players compete directly against one another in the same space adventure.

How SpaceWarp 66 link play works
Two SpaceWarp 66 cabinets can be connected with a network cable, allowing two people to play simultaneously. Each player sees a mirrored version of the game map while competing in a live challenge.
The feature is available whether the cabinets are configured for redemption or amusement play. Existing operators can purchase upgrade kits for the networking provision, while the software update itself is free.
Touch Magix CTO Anup Tapadia described the update as a way to make SpaceWarp 66 a family-focused competitive experience, with mirrored maps intended to make multiplayer sessions more engaging and competitive.
Update information for operators
Operators with existing SpaceWarp 66 machines can contact their local distributor to arrange the upgrade. Touch Magix also directs operators to www.touchmagix.com for further information.
Footage of the earlier v3.3 software is available when you click here. Version 4.0 is not described as the final update, leaving scope for further additions to the game.
For Australian operators assessing connected attractions, the change is a useful example of how arcade gaming news is extending beyond traditional single-player cabinets. Planning networked machines also makes location layout, cabling and ongoing arcade maintenance important considerations.
