Touch Magix is set to present MagixPool at BOWL Expo 2023, turning a conventional pool table into an interactive mixed-reality attraction. The product will be shown at the AAMA Game Room 1151 at the Orange County Convention Center in Florida from 28–29 June 2023.
The company is already familiar to many family entertainment centres through its range of skill-based redemption games and interactive installations. Its portfolio includes Touch Magix arcade games, including Carnival Cups, Mega Blaster, SpaceWarp 66, Drift ‘N’ Thrift, Dicey Jump, Hop N Stack and MagixFloor.
MagixPool builds on Touch Magix’s experience with projection mapping. The company’s first coin-operated product grew from that technology, while later projects brought interactive effects to bowling environments. MagixPool applies the same general idea to a pool table, adding projected graphics and animated liquid-style effects to the playing surface.
How MagixPool works
Touch Magix describes MagixPool as an all-in-one, plug-and-play augmented-reality unit designed to modernise an existing pool table. The announcement states that any pool table can be converted, potentially allowing operators to add an interactive attraction without replacing their legacy table.
Projection-mapped pool tables have appeared before, including earlier systems from China. MagixPool’s presentation stands out for the apparently smooth motion shown in its demonstration video. A consistent frame rate of 60 frames per second or higher can make projected effects feel substantially more arcade-ready, even though some input or visual delay remains.
That delay is less critical in a pool-based experience than it would be in a fighting game or twitch shooter. For operators, the visual quality of the projection will still depend on the condition and colour of the table’s felt.
