The final season of Netflix’s The Witcher is no longer expected to arrive in 2026. A report from What’s On Netflix indicates that the concluding chapter is now planned for release in 2027.

The change is notable because the fifth season had already completed filming in September 2025, shortly before season 4 reached Netflix in October that year. Details about the delay have not been publicly explained.

Seasons 4 and 5 were filmed together

Production on seasons 4 and 5 took place back-to-back, with the two instalments developed as parts of one larger narrative. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich previously described them as a single story that had to be divided into two Netflix releases.

That combined storyline follows the family’s attempt to reunite, while the creative team selected elements from the books to shape 16 cohesive narrative episodes across both seasons.

The scheduling shift also breaks with the series’ usual pattern. New seasons have generally arrived every two years, so a 2027 release for the final season comes later than viewers expected after season 4’s 2025 launch.

A difficult reception for season 4

Season 4 marked a low point for the live-action fantasy series, attracting some of its harshest critical reviews. The recasting of Geralt also prompted a negative response from some viewers.
