The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt separates its romantic storylines into two serious relationships and several optional encounters. Triss Merigold and Yennefer can become Geralt’s long-term partner, while the other choices are shorter affairs with no effect on those main endings.
This guide explains when each decision matters, how to pursue Triss or Yennefer, what happens if Geralt chooses both, and where to find every secondary romance.

How romance works in The Witcher 3
Geralt can enjoy as many casual flings as he likes, but the game treats Triss and Yennefer differently. To unlock a full romance ending, you must finish one woman’s relevant quest line and declare your love.
That choice leads to an additional end-game scene showing Geralt’s life with his chosen partner. You can still share certain intimate moments with both women before the final declaration, but committing to both has serious consequences.
How to romance Triss

Triss’s romance must be completed before beginning The Isle of Mists, the Skellige-based main quest.
Continue through the main story until you finish Count Reuven’s Treasure. Then complete the Novigrad side quest A Matter of Life and Death. After finding Albert Vegelbud at the masquerade, follow Triss into the labyrinth and choose to kiss her. This is a timed decision.
Next, start Now or Never and agree to help Triss. At the port, when she is preparing to leave for Kovir, choose “Stay with me” and then “I love you.” The romance scene follows.
How to romance Yennefer

Yennefer’s romance must be secured before completing the main quest Ugly Baby.
On the Skellige Isles, follow the main quests from The King is Dead – Long Live the King through The Calm Before the Storm. This opens the side quest The Last Wish in Larvik. After helping Yennefer find the djinn and break the spell, choose “I still love you, too.” when she says that her feelings have not changed.
There is also an optional intimate scene during The King is Dead – Long Live the King. After the Earth Elemental fight, the cave fills with poisonous gas. When Yennefer asks Geralt to think of something, choose “Damn, I wanna kiss you, Yen.” Then select “Wouldn’t mind watching…” after she teleports them to her room. This produces the well-known unicorn scene.
Later, during No Place Like Home at Kaer Morhen, Geralt can agree to retreat to Yennefer’s bedroom if he declared his love in The Last Wish.
What happens if Geralt romances both?

Trying to claim a happy ending with both Triss and Yennefer backfires. Rather than sharing the promised ménage à trois, they leave Geralt tied to a bed at the Kingfisher Inn. Dandelion eventually rescues him, and Geralt is locked out of both main romance endings.
The decisive point is the love declaration at the end of Now or Never or The Last Wish. Kissing Triss during A Matter of Life and Death does not prevent a Yennefer ending if Geralt avoids telling Triss that he loves her. Likewise, the intimate encounter during The King is Dead – Long Live the King does not block Triss if Geralt declines to declare love to Yennefer in The Last Wish.
Geralt only receives the lonely romance outcome if he completes both Now or Never and The Last Wish with a declaration of love. Following both quest lines while rejecting one relationship is safe, and the secondary romances can still be pursued.
Every secondary romance option
The following encounters do not replace the main romance endings.
- Keira Metz: Complete Hunting a Witch and Wandering in the Dark, followed by Magic Lamp, An Invitation from Keira Metz, A Towerful of Mice and A Favor for a Friend. At the end of the final quest, agree to help Keira and follow her into the woods.
- Jutta an Dimun: Finish the Skellige side quest Iron Maiden by defeating Jutta without Witcher signs or tools. Then accept her invitation to visit her home.
- Madame Sasha: Win the Gwent tournament in High Stakes, or agree to help Sasha. Accept her dinner invitation and follow her upstairs.
- Shani: This option is part of the Hearts of Stone expansion. Stay at the party near the end of Dead Man’s Party, then give Shani rowan flowers during A Midnight Clear.
- Syanna: This option is part of the Blood and Wine expansion. During Beyond Hill and Dale, defeat the giant, choose “Useful? How?”, and then select “Let her have her way with you.”
- Brothel workers: Geralt can pay to sleep with any brothel worker as often as he likes. These encounters only trigger a romantic scene and otherwise provide no lasting benefit.
