The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Remastered is set to remove two major concerns for returning players: existing save files will work with the upgrade, and previously unlocked trophies and achievements will carry across.

CD Projekt Red confirmed the details in a wrote on X update. Players should be able to resume their current adventure from the same point rather than beginning again, with their completion progress intact.

That news makes the remaster sound like an upgrade to the current PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S release, rather than a completely separate edition. For players who have already dealt with transferring a save between versions, that distinction is significant. The earlier process was complicated enough that a detailed guide will matter a lot of fans who face a similar transition.

Why the 2022 upgrade caused frustration

The 2022 “next-gen” release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S operated as its own version of The Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red added a cloud-save transfer feature, allowing players to move a recent save from the older open-world RPG release into the newer one, but the process was still far from straightforward.

Trophies and achievements created an even bigger problem. The newer version used separate lists, so progress earned on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One release did not automatically appear. Players who had spent years working towards a platinum or full achievement completion could therefore find themselves starting that challenge again.

A smoother return to the Path

The confirmed save and progression support should make it easier for returning players to continue long-running challenges, including a “Death March!” difficulty run, without repeating earlier work. The remastered version is scheduled for release on September 29.

One player also asked whether the remaster would include a separate trophy list, hoping for another opportunity to earn the platinum. That question was raised on September 1, 2026, but the available confirmation only addresses the transfer of existing saves, trophies and achievements.
