The Batman Part II set photos point to Court of Owls and Anarky
Filming for Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II is underway in London, and new behind-the-scenes material is offering clues about the sequel’s possible villains. Robert Pattinson’s return as Bruce Wayne appears to be at the centre of a large protest sequence, with two comic-book threats now attracting particular attention.
New footage and photos show Pattinson moving through a substantial crowd while members of the Gotham City Police Department flank him. Protesters carry signs bearing phrases including “Court of Oligarchs”, “Court of Fouls” and “Eat the Rich”.
Are the Court of Owls coming to Gotham?
The repeated use of the word “Court” has revived speculation that the Court of Owls will play a major role in The Batman: Part II. The secretive group, introduced in Scott Snyder’s New 52 Batman run, is made up of wealthy Gotham figures who influence the city from the shadows.
That idea fits the protest setting and the first film’s examination of Bruce Wayne’s family name, privilege and responsibility to Gotham. A story in which ordinary citizens distrust Wayne while celebrating Batman could create a sharp conflict for this version of the character.
The theory also connects with Reeves’ earlier comment that the sequel’s villain had not previously appeared in a film. Fans have treated that remark as a significant clue, although the set material does not confirm the Court’s involvement.
Anarky may also be part of the sequel
Another figure visible in the protest sequence appears to be Anarky. A character wears a white mask and a jacket marked with the anarchy symbol, closely matching the comic-book design.
Anarky is the alias of Lonnie Machin, a politically radical character who seeks to overthrow corrupt institutions. His ideology would put him at odds with the Court of Owls, while his hostility towards wealthy power structures would also make Bruce Wayne a natural target.
Anarky has already appeared in Batman: Arkham Origins and The CW’s Arrow, but he has not yet made his big-screen debut. That would make him another possible match for Reeves’ comment about an unseen film villain.
