Super Blaster Ships as TMNT: Wrath of the Mutants Heads Home

Two notable arcade developments put operators and home players in the spotlight: Triotech’s SuperBlaster is ready to ship, while Raw Thrills’ 2018 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game is coming to consoles and PC as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Wrath of the Mutants.

Triotech SuperBlaster is now shipping

First shown at IAAPA Expo 2023, SuperBlaster is an open-cabinet version of Triotech’s QUBE, which launched the previous year. The two attractions share their guns, seats, special effects and game content; the key distinction is that QUBE uses an enclosed cabinet, while SuperBlaster has an open design.

Five games are currently available for both systems, and SuperBlaster will ship with that initial selection. The attraction is designed as an attendant-free, multiplayer coin-op simulator for arcades and family entertainment centres.

Built for four-player venue play

SuperBlaster combines group participation with individual scoring, giving four players a competitive reason to replay. Triotech says the design can help operators manage staffing pressures while encouraging repeat rides.

The package includes a 100-inch 4K projected display, motion seats, wind effects, blasters and 5.1 surround sound. Its experiences use Unreal Engine 5, with additional content planned for the expanding library.

Triotech says SuperBlaster is ready for worldwide shipping after demonstrations at IAAPA Expo in Orlando and EAG in London. The company also planned showcases at DEAL in Dubai and Amusement Expo International in Las Vegas.

Triotech founder and CEO Ernest Yale described the open format as a way to attract players while retaining the visual impact of a premium ride. He also highlighted the attendant-free operation as a fit for arcades and family entertainment centres.

The company reports a return on investment in less than four months. Operators could see the unit at DEAL in Dubai, at ASI Booth B89, and at Amusement Expo International in Las Vegas, at Booth 404.

TMNT arcade game gets a home release

Raw Thrills’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game from 2018 is being brought to home platforms in April under the name Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Wrath of the Mutants. The release retains the original arcade game and adds new levels and bosses.

Wrath of the Mutants is scheduled for PC through Steam, Xbox Series consoles, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. At the time of the announcement, no physical edition had been confirmed, leaving open the possibility of a limited release later.

When should arcade games move to home platforms?

Arcade-to-console conversions are relatively uncommon today, which makes this release an interesting case. The original game arrived in 2018, giving the arcade version several years before its home debut.

That delay can protect a venue’s exclusive appeal while eventually allowing more players to experience the game.
