Steam’s catalogue is growing at an extraordinary pace. During one recent week, 720 new games arrived on Valve’s PC storefront, creating a record that may not stand for long.
720 games in seven days
ICO Partners CEO Thomas Bidaux, who regularly tracks Steam release data, recorded 720 launches between 24 and 30 August 2026. That works out to roughly 102 releases every day, or about four new games per hour.
The scale becomes clearer when compared with Steam’s earlier history: the entire year of 2013 saw just 436 games released on the platform.
For broader arcade and gaming news, this is a useful reminder of how dramatically digital game distribution has expanded beyond the traditional release cycle.
Most of the new releases attract little attention
The headline figure looks less positive when player engagement is examined. Of the 720 games launched that week, 530 had between zero and nine player reviews. In other words, nearly three-quarters had received 10 reviews or fewer.
Only 10 of the new releases had more than 1,000 reviews. The data suggests that many of the remaining games were played by very small audiences, potentially limited to the developers’ immediate circles of family and friends.
That creates a difficult environment for independent developers: even completing a game is no guarantee that players will discover it among hundreds of other weekly releases.
“And we have now past 700 releases a week on Steam. A month earlier than I expected.”
— Thomas Bidaux, ICO Partners, 31 August 2026
A record that was predicted to arrive later
Earlier in August, Bidaux reported that 670 games had launched on Steam in a single week. He predicted that the platform would eventually pass 700 weekly releases, but the 720-game milestone arrived about a month sooner than expected.
If the current growth rate continues, another week could eventually bring 800 new Steam games.
Steam’s annual totals keep climbing
The weekly record reflects a wider trend. More than 19,000 games were released on Steam in 2024, and data indicated that about 80 percent were essentially unplayed.
Release activity has continued to rise in 2026. More than 12,000 games reached Valve’s store during the first half of the year, a 19 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025. For comparison, around 21,000 games were released on Steam last year.
For players, the expanding catalogue offers an enormous range of choices but also makes discovery harder. Whether you are selecting a new PC game or planning a dedicated arcade machine, the challenge is increasingly finding experiences that deserve your attention.
