Stardew Valley Switch 2 Physical Edition Includes Cartridge and Manual

Stardew Valley is already available digitally on Nintendo Switch 2, but a boxed release is scheduled for 5 February 2027. Unlike many modern physical releases, it includes a genuine game cartridge and an 18-page manual rather than only a download code.

The release should appeal to players who enjoy collecting boxed games, as well as newcomers looking for a tangible introduction to the farming and life-simulation classic. It also offers more than a new box design: the cartridge includes the original Nintendo Switch version, while a separate Switch 2 upgrade pack adds the newer console features.

What comes with the Switch 2 edition?

The package includes the Stardew Valley cartridge with the version 1.6 update, plus an upgrade pack that can be downloaded for the Nintendo Switch 2. The upgrade adds several platform-specific features:

• Mouse controls
• Local split-screen multiplayer for up to four players
• Online multiplayer for up to eight players
• Game Share, allowing the owner to invite up to three other players to a session

The cartridge contains version 1.6, so any later patches released before or after launch will still need to be downloaded.

An 18-page guide for new farmers

The included manual covers the fundamentals needed to get started in the Valley and contains a map. That makes it a practical extra for first-time players, while the physical presentation gives collectors another boxed edition to consider.

Existing owners of the physical Stardew Valley release may have less reason to upgrade. The manual appears to be the same, and the Switch 2 upgrade pack is available free through the eShop. For those players, the main differences are the console branding on the packaging and the price.

How the editions compare

The physical original Switch edition costs $35, while the Switch 2 physical edition costs $39. That is a $4 premium for the revised packaging and the included upgrade pack, despite the upgrade being available free from the eShop.

Collectors may instead prefer the deluxe original Switch package. Priced at $59, it includes a larger box, a wooden pin, a mini farm deed, Four Seasons art cards, a mini comic and a fold-out poster.

A boxed release with a clear audience

For new players and physical-game collectors, the Switch 2 edition combines a cartridge, a useful paper manual and the console’s enhanced features. For current owners, however, the free upgrade and apparently unchanged manual make the $4 difference harder to justify.
