Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered a remarkable early box-office result, earning $72 million from preview screenings in the United States. That figure surpasses the previous domestic preview record of $60 million, set by Avengers: Endgame in April 2019.
According to Deadline, the film is very likely to pass $100 million in domestic receipts by the end of its first Friday, including preview screenings. Only five films have previously reached that mark:
- Avengers: Endgame — $157.4 million
- Spider-Man: No Way Home — $121.96 million
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens — $119.1 million
- Avengers: Infinity War — $106.3 million
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi — $104.6 million
A major opening weekend is in sight
The early numbers put Brand New Day on course to challenge Avengers: Endgame’s domestic opening weekend of $357 million. That Marvel blockbuster also collected $1.2 billion worldwide during its opening weekend.
The new Spider-Man film is expected to earn at least $850 million internationally within its first five days. Reviews have also been strongly positive so far, with a 90% critics’ score and a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
A strong year for cinema
Brand New Day arrives during an unusually successful year for the box office. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey earned more than $700 million worldwide in its first 12 days, and the combination of Spider-Man’s opening and The Odyssey’s third weekend could produce the largest combined domestic weekend total in box-office history.
The current benchmark is $402 million, recorded during the opening weekend of Avengers: Endgame. If the latest projections hold, this weekend could establish a new high-water mark.
2026’s other box-office winners
Horror releases including Obsession and Backrooms have exceeded expectations, drawing large numbers of Gen Z moviegoers to cinemas. Toy Story 5 is currently the highest-grossing film of 2026, having passed $1 billion worldwide, while Project Hail Mary is among the year’s other notable successes.
Domestic cinema revenue is also tracking towards $10 billion in 2026, which would be the first time it has reached that level since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
