The latest Spider-Man film earned an estimated $355 million, showing that audiences still turn out for a major release built around a beloved character.
Spider-Man comes within $2 million of the record
Deadline estimates that Spider-Man: Brand New Day made $355 million in the United States over its opening weekend. That places it just below the $357 million achieved by Avengers: Endgame in 2019, before the pandemic and during the peak of superhero cinema’s popularity.
The figure remains an estimate, so the final reported total could still change. If the completed result rises above the current projection, the film could yet overtake the previous Avengers record.
A powerful result for the Spider-Man franchise
The film’s performance follows an exceptional opening day, which was reported as the biggest of all time. That early result suggested strong momentum, particularly at a time when superhero films have generally faced cooler reactions from critics and cinema audiences.
Brand New Day also continues a notable pattern for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man films: each successive entry has opened higher than the one before it. That kind of upward movement is unusual for an established franchise.
The movie’s standalone appeal appears to have helped. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been described as a grounded, emotional and carefully made addition to the character’s film history.
