Silent Hill f and Urban Myth Dissolution Center have come together for an unusual Japanese gaming collaboration featuring new artwork, a discounted Steam bundle and a free browser-based mini-game.

Konami’s latest chapter in its signature horror series released to strong acclaim and became one of the fastest-selling games in the Silent Hill franchise. Hakababunko’s Urban Myth Dissolution Center achieved a different kind of breakthrough, selling more than 300,000 units within three months of its release last year.

That success has enabled the occult mystery visual novel to move beyond its original format through several partnerships, including its own real-world mystery game. The crossover with Silent Hill f brings together two notable Japanese releases from 2025 and two teams that hold each other’s work in high regard.

Why these games are a natural match

The collaboration might seem unexpected at first, but both projects are rooted in unsettling mysteries and unusual storytelling. Before becoming the author of Silent Hill f, Ryukishi07 was widely known for the mystery visual novels Umineko and Higurashi.

Urban Myth Dissolution Center also received a significant endorsement from Silent Hill f producer Motoi Okamoto. In the 2025 developer- and producer-voted awards published by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Okamoto named Hakababunko’s game as one of the year’s highlights. It ranked third overall in the developer-voted rankings, behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Ghost of Yotei, and ahead of Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World.

A free crossover mystery

The partnership includes new artwork by Kera, the character designer and illustrator for Silent Hill f. The two games are also being offered together through a reduced-price Steam bundle.

More substantially, the collaboration has produced a short free scenario built around the gameplay and visual approach of Urban Myth Dissolution Center. It is playable within your browser and combines characters from both games.

In the scenario, Silent Hill f character Hinako becomes lost inside a derelict school. Her search brings her into contact with strange figures and unexplained phenomena, placing the series’ horror protagonist inside Hakababunko’s mystery-focused setting.

Japanese indie games in the spotlight

The crossover also highlights the increasing reach of Japan’s independent development scene. Smaller teams are creating distinctive alternatives to major studio releases and finding audiences both domestically and overseas.

Konami itself has sponsored and run various game jams and events connected with Japan’s growing development community. For Hakababunko, the partnership brings additional attention to Urban Myth Dissolution Center after its strong commercial performance and recognition from fellow developers.
