Shrek 2 Remastered has been officially announced with a reveal trailer that playfully adopts the cinematic presentation associated with Grand Theft Auto 6. The unexpected comparison gives the 2004 movie tie-in a suitably dramatic return.

Developed by Aspyr, the remaster launches on 10 November for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. The project first emerged through an achievement leak last month, followed by an early Xbox Store listing that outlined several upgrades.

What to expect from Shrek 2 Remastered

Originally created by Luxoflux and published by Activision, Shrek 2 is an action-adventure platformer based on DreamWorks Animation’s 2004 film. Its journey moves through recognisable locations such as Shrek’s swamp, Fiona’s castle and the kingdom of Far Far Away, while also adding sequences made specifically for the game.

Shrek is joined by familiar characters including Fiona and Donkey. Players fight enemies, navigate platforming challenges and, in the original release, could invite up to three other people for local cooperative play.

Modern upgrades and online multiplayer

The remaster updates the experience for current hardware with improved textures, a revised user interface, enhanced cutscenes and 4K resolution. It also introduces Photo Mode and Cheat Mode, giving players additional ways to adjust and revisit the adventure.

The most significant multiplayer change is online co-op. Whereas the original supported local multiplayer, the remastered version allows up to four players to form a team online.

The release also arrives ahead of Shrek 5, which is expected in 2027. That timing gives fans an opportunity to return to the series’ early-2000s game and film era before the ogre’s next cinema appearance.
