Sega Amusements International has launched Storm Rider 2, a motorcycle racing simulator developed with Wahlap and 3MindWave. The arcade release was first shown at IAAPA 2022 and is now shipping through distribution channels.
The sequel takes a different approach to the original game, despite sharing its name. Its twin cabinet combines a swivelling motorcycle seat with a motion base that operators can switch on or off, adding movement to the riding experience.
A touchscreen handles rider and track selection, displays the course map during races and supports other game functions. Unreal Engine 4 powers the visuals, while the game is built around four closed-circuit tracks set in varied locations.
Storm Rider 2 features multiplayer racing
The game is designed to accommodate both casual players and experienced arcade racers. Its four courses, three bikes and three characters provide several combinations, while a bike-upgrade system gives players an incentive to return.
Storm Rider 2 supports a single-player campaign as well as competitive multiplayer for up to four motorcycles.

A new direction for the series
Storm Rider 2 shares its predecessor’s arcade-racing identity, but the gameplay and presentation have changed considerably. The sequel shows a stronger influence from modern, spectacle-focused racers while retaining the closed-track structure associated with Sega’s racing titles.
There is also a direct connection between the teams behind both games. The chief executive and co-founder of 3MindWave previously worked at Wahlap and was closely involved with the original Storm Rider, bringing series experience to the new production.
The upgrade system was not demonstrated in detail at IAAPA, and its performance during location testing was not confirmed. However, Storm Rider 2 progressing into production and shipping indicates that the game moved beyond the show and test stages.
