Saros: Zenith is a free major update for Housemarque’s bullet-hell action game, adding accessibility settings for new players alongside fresh challenges for experienced players. The update launches on 19 October 2026.

The update’s most significant accessibility feature is Slow Game Speed. Players can control how much enemy projectile patterns slow down, then assign the effect to a manual toggle or have it activate automatically when incoming bullets are detected. It is designed to reduce the pressure of dense combat without removing the game’s central focus on movement and evasion.
Auto-fire provides another way to make battles more manageable. With the setting enabled, Arjun automatically fires at enemies under the player’s aim, allowing more attention to be placed on dodging blue and red projectiles. Reloading remains manual, and perfect reloads still require a precisely timed button press. More details are available in the PlayStation Blog post.

New challenges for experienced players
Overlord Rush is the update’s boss-rush mode. It sends players against the game’s powerful Overlords for leaderboard positions, with three challenge sets available:
- Incursion: three Overlords.
- Ascension: three Overlords.
- Totality: all eight Overlords in succession.
Zenith also introduces 10 new Protection Modifiers and 10 new Trial Modifiers. Protection Modifiers make the game easier, while Trial Modifiers increase the difficulty. Players can only equip a limited number of protections before they must balance them with trials. One new protection, Corruption Melee Enhancement, releases Corruption to increase damage from close-range attacks.
These modifiers connect directly to the new Game Plus mode, known as Eclipse Layers. Once the game has been completed, new nodes appear on the Armor Matrix in the Passage hub. Unlocking those nodes opens a gate to the next Eclipse Layer, with each progression step requiring more Carcosan Modifiers.
During Eclipse Layers, Arjun wears a crown and golden armour. The crown grows as more modifiers are added, and higher crown levels unlock hidden messages placed throughout the game world.

How Saros has been received
Housemarque’s latest release has received generally positive critical attention. Reviewers have highlighted its unusual, fiction-inspired visuals and precise bullet-hell combat, although some considered its lower difficulty compared with Returnal an overcorrection.
Commercially, the PS5 exclusive appears to have had a slow start. Alinea Analytics reported that it sold 300,000 copies during its first two weeks. Housemarque co-founder and managing director Ilari Kuittinen retired from the company shortly after the game launched. Zenith gives both returning players and newcomers a reason to revisit Saros.
