Ghost Rider will then take the July release slot. Shawn Levy is directing the film, having previously worked on Deadpool & Wolverine. Levy is also attached to Gosling’s Star Wars: Starfighter.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has indicated that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will substantially reshape the MCU, but he has not described the result as a complete reboot.

Which Ghost Rider will Ryan Gosling play?

Marvel has not revealed which incarnation Gosling will portray. The comics have featured several Ghost Riders, with Johnny Blaze among the best known. Nicolas Cage played Blaze in two films.

Robbie Reyes has also technically appeared in the MCU, with Gabriel Luna playing the character in the television series Agents of SHIELD. Whether Gosling’s role connects to either version remains unconfirmed.

Marvel’s remaining 2028 release plans

The third Marvel Studios film currently scheduled for 2028 is Black Panther 3, dated for 15 December. David Jonsson is set to play T’Challa’s son, who was introduced as a child at the end of Black Panther 2. Letitia Wright’s Shuri and Winston Duke’s M’Baku are expected to return, and both characters are due to appear in December’s Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel has also reserved 9 November 2029 for an untitled film. Possible projects mentioned around the studio include Nova and a sequel to Shang-Chi, but no title has been attached to that date.

Why July matters for Marvel

The studio has recently used July for several major releases. Deadpool & Wolverine arrived in July 2024, The Fantastic Four: First Steps launched Phase 6 in 2025, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day set box-office records after releasing the previous month.

That history gives Ghost Rider a prominent position in Marvel’s post-Secret Wars schedule, but the film’s story, version of the character and supporting cast remain largely unknown.
