The third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is heading towards an all-out conflict, with a new trailer showing Sauron’s plans moving into their most dangerous phase. The series returns to Prime Video on 11 November.
The story remains set in Middle-earth’s Second Age, thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Across the first two seasons, Sauron’s deception helped lead the elven smith Celebrimbor to create the Rings of Power, while elves, dwarves and the people of Númenor remained unaware that Sauron was secretly making the One Ring to dominate them all.

Season 3 brings Middle-earth to the brink
The trailer points to a much larger military struggle after the fall of Eregion. Númenor, Khazad-dûm, Lindon and Rivendell are among the remaining centres of resistance that must stand together against Sauron and his armies.
Viewers have already seen an early version of the show’s Ringwraith mythology. A previous teaser introduced the Naznagôl, men corrupted by Sauron who represent a stage before they become the fully transformed Nazgûl seen in The Lord of the Rings. The earlier Naznagôl teaser offers more context.

Release schedule for The Rings of Power season 3
Showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay return for the new season, with Charlotte Brändström also back as a director. Prime Video will release the season in three instalments:
- 11 November: Episodes 1–4
- 18 November: Episodes 5–6
- 25 November: Episodes 7–8

What the trailer reveals
The preview promises large-scale battles, high-stakes drama and a confrontation involving a Balrog. While the series has taken substantial liberties with J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology, it has developed a dedicated audience and become a commercial success for Prime Video.
The planned story is expected to run for five seasons.
