Rayman Legends Retold is set to receive a distinctly French costume crossover, with Rayman and Barbara getting outfits that closely echo the memorable baguette-themed gear from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

In Expedition 33, the optional outfits give the game’s otherwise serious expeditioners a deliberately playful look: red berets, black-and-white striped shirts and baguettes secured to their backs. The joke has become one of the role-playing game’s most recognisable lighter moments.

The costumes will arrive in Rayman Legends Retold in December. Ubisoft has not directly named Expedition 33 as the inspiration, but its announcement describes the outfits as a playful nod to another game made in Montpellier.

The announcement also says the reference honours a title with a special place in the development team’s hearts. That makes the connection fairly clear, even if the wording stops short of calling it a formal crossover.

A remake aimed at a wider audience

The original Rayman Legends launched in 2013. Ubisoft is revisiting it to introduce the series to new players, describing it as the richest version of Rayman’s world and the entry with the broadest selection of characters.

The remake retains the colourful platforming, imaginative settings and energetic personality that made the original stand out. That combination also makes it a natural fit for a playful cosmetic surprise such as the baguette costumes.

Rayman Legends Retold is scheduled to launch on December 3 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. The baguette outfits will be available from launch.

French game design gets a light-hearted nod

The costume reference links two very different games through their shared Montpellier connection. Expedition 33 uses its baguette clothing as comic relief within a dramatic RPG, while Rayman Legends Retold can present the same visual idea in a naturally whimsical platforming world.
