Raw Thrills and Play Mechanix have revealed an early glimpse of Superstar, an upcoming basketball arcade game. The brief teaser leaves plenty unanswered, but its four-player layout immediately invites comparisons with classic arcade basketball.
What the Superstar teaser shows
The 18-second video was released today by Raw Thrills on their social media channels. It offers only a fleeting look at the machine, so the game’s features, release plans and licensing remain unconfirmed.
A contrast-enhanced frame reveals a cabinet with the familiar general shape associated with Raw Thrills machines. The control panel appears to support four players, with one visible button beside each joystick. There is also no obvious indication that the game uses player cards.
A second enhancement, captured during the brighter flashes in the teaser, provides a clearer view of the control panel.
Could Superstar be linked to NBA Jam?
It is too early to identify the full concept, but the project has an interesting connection to arcade basketball history. People at both Play Mechanix and Raw Thrills are known to be sports fans, while some team members were involved with Midway during the development of NBA Jam.
That background makes an NBA licence seem possible, although there is no confirmation at this stage. The finished title could become NBA Superstars, or it may simply launch as Superstar. More information will be needed before either possibility can be treated as fact.
