Pokémon Unite will shut down after five years
Pokémon Unite is the free-to-play Pokémon MOBA that brought team-based battles to Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS. After launching in 2021, the service will permanently close on 22 March 2027 at 9 p.m. ET.
The closure follows the Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 tournament, whose finals take place one day earlier. The event will give competitors a final opportunity to play before the game leaves every supported platform. The Pokémon Company has not stated why support is ending.
For readers who enjoy competitive digital games, the announcement is a reminder that online services can disappear even after years of play. RETROCADE covers the wider arcade and gaming news landscape, including the hardware that keeps offline experiences available.
What happens to Gems and memberships?
Players can no longer purchase Gems. Any purchased Gems left unused when the service ends will be refunded. Existing memberships will continue until their expiry dates, but they cannot be renewed.
Final update adds a Library feature
On 12 November 2026, Pokémon Unite will receive its final update. A special event will let players collect licences and holowear they may have missed during the game’s run.
The update will also introduce the Library. After the servers close, players will still be able to open it and review their statistics, unlocked content and other collected items. The in-game shop will offer previously unavailable stock, including Battle Pass items and event-exclusive holowear, at a significant discount for anyone wanting to expand their Library.
For players who invested time and money in the MOBA, 22 March will mark the end of an important part of their gaming routine. The Library should at least preserve a record of what they earned, even after the matches are no longer playable.
Those looking to build a more permanent gaming setup can explore RETROCADE’s arcade machines, compare options in the arcade machine buying guide, or consider a compact bartop arcade.
