Pokémon fans expecting the 30th Anniversary Ultra Premium Collection instead found a far smaller release when the latest Pokémon Center drop went live. Rumours of the highly anticipated product had circulated through Pokémon restock Discord servers, but the eventual launch offered mini tins.

Shoppers prepared to spend hours in an online queue for a single 30th Anniversary mini tin. Each tin features appealing artwork and stickers, but contains just two booster packs.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $9.99, making the tins cheaper than comparable prices at major retailers such as Target and at local card shops. However, the low price is difficult to weigh against the time required to secure two packs.

There are eight tin designs available, meaning a determined customer could potentially buy up to 16 packs across the full set. The designs are:

  • Greninja
  • Night Pikachu
  • Mewtwo
  • Umbreon
  • Zapdos
  • Moltres
  • Mew
  • Lapras

Why the 30th Anniversary drop frustrated collectors

The disappointment is not only about the size of the purchase. Collectors had been hoping for the Ultra Premium Collection, which is due in a couple of weeks, and questioned why the retailer released already-available tins instead of opening pre-orders for that larger product.

The purchasing process also creates complications. Each tin design appears as a separate listing, so buying several versions requires additional clicks during an active release. Those extra interactions can increase the chance of triggering the site’s aggressive anti-bot systems, which do not always identify the intended reseller targets.

Adding multiple listings to a cart also takes valuable time. Experienced Pokémon Center shoppers already know that securing even one item during a busy drop can be difficult. Customers attempting to collect every design are more likely to encounter checkout errors or see products sell out before the order is completed.

What released on 15 October?

The 30th Anniversary offering consisted of the eight mini tins listed above. For Australian collectors, the practical appeal is the $9.99 manufacturer’s suggested retail price, but the limited contents and difficult checkout process may make the release feel underwhelming despite the attractive designs.
