October’s PlayStation Plus catalogue offers a particularly strong month for Extra and Premium subscribers. The line-up combines major open-world and role-playing adventures with co-op action, horror, retro survival horror and a classic theme-park strategy game.

On October 14, PlayStation officially announced the next group of games joining the service. The additions do not all arrive on the same day, so the release schedule is important when planning what to download.

Although October is traditionally associated with spooky games, only a few of this month’s additions are distinctly creepy. The Midnight Walk, Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2 and Dino Crisis 2 provide the most obvious horror flavour.

The broader selection is more varied. Mafia: The Old Country brings a semi-open-world crime story, while Mycopunk is a co-op looter-shooter that has already made an impression on PC. Horizon Forbidden West, Tales of Arise – Beyond the Dawn Edition, Monster Energy Supercross 25 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition add adventure, role-playing, racing and management options.

Players interested in the wider arcade and gaming news landscape may also appreciate the inclusion of Dino Crisis 2, a particularly notable retro-era addition. It is available through the Premium tier rather than Extra.

What subscribers need to know

Access to these games requires an active PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscription. Essential members do not receive access to the Game Catalogue. If a subscription expires, downloaded catalogue games cannot be played again unless the subscription is renewed.

The dates listed above are the United States availability dates supplied for the announcement, so Australian players should check their local PlayStation Store before setting aside time to download each title.

If this line-up inspires a dedicated home gaming space, RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide can help compare cabinet styles and features. Options include full-size arcade machines, space-saving bartop arcades and dedicated racing simulators.
