S-Game has opened pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero on the PlayStation Store and Steam, but the current listings provide no sign of a physical edition. The news arrived alongside an extended trailer and confirmation of a dedicated State of Play presentation scheduled for August 17.
The pre-order announcement appeared in a PlayStation Blog post published on August 1. Following its purchase link leads to a digital version of the game on the PlayStation Store.
Why the physical version is uncertain
The absence of a disc option on the PlayStation Store is not, by itself, definitive evidence that Phantom Blade Zero will never receive a physical release. The game is being self-published by S-Game, despite its PlayStation 5 console exclusivity for the first 12 months.
Physical games promoted and sold through PlayStation’s website are generally Sony-published first-party releases. However, the wording in the Phantom Blade Zero announcement differs from Sony’s coverage of Silent Hill 2, another title that was exclusive to PS5 for its first year. That earlier announcement explicitly referred to a physical release, while the Phantom Blade Zero post does not.
Trailer imagery adds to the speculation
An extended reveal trailer uploaded to the official PlayStation YouTube account also appears to replace the standard PS5 model with a disc-free Digital Edition in its closing console imagery. Genki highlighted the change in a post on X, describing it as an unusual choice for one of Sony’s promotional trailers.
The trailer change, combined with the lack of an announced disc edition from S-Game, has prompted discussion among fans on the Phantom Blade Zero subreddit. Some are concerned that the PS5 release could be digital-only.
That remains speculation rather than a confirmed release plan. One possibility is that S-Game could announce a physical edition later after securing a manufacturing or distribution partner. Another is that no disc version is planned for PS5, potentially leaving the Xbox Series release as the more likely candidate for physical distribution if the game eventually receives one.
