Doctrine is the newest Support hero revealed for Overwatch at BlizzCon 2026. Designed around a vampire-inspired theme, he combines healing, damage and temporary power boosts through a mechanic called Infuse.

The hero has a relatively demanding kit, but a hands-on trial at BlizzCon showed how quickly his tools come together. Doctrine should appeal to aggressive Support players, Reaper fans who often fill the Support role, and anyone drawn to a darker visual style. He is also described as a former ally of Doomfist.

Doctrine’s full ability kit

The following details come from the playable BlizzCon 2026 build.

Weapon: Eternal Scepter

  • Eternal Scepter heals allies and damages enemies at mid-range. When Infused, it fires a larger blast that can pierce targets.

Ultimate: Deliverance

  • Deliverance releases a swarm of drones. Enemies affected by the swarm lose maximum health, while allies gain overhealth.

Abilities

  • Infuse adds a powerful extra effect to Doctrine’s next ability.
  • Shrouded Momentum sends Doctrine rushing horizontally while providing damage reduction. When Infused, it grants free flight.
  • Invigorating Drones sends drones to an ally, increasing their attack speed and healing them. When Infused, the drones also deploy on Doctrine himself.

Passive and sub-role

  • Sub-role: Survivor.
  • Movement abilities begin passive.

Doctrine’s perks

Doctrine’s perk choices are built around different approaches to healing and ability management. The level 2 options improve separate parts of his recovery, while one level 3 choice trades health for stronger weapon healing.

Minor perks — level 2

  • Saving Grace makes Invigorating Drones restore 40 health when applied.
  • Sanguine Siphon heals Doctrine for 50% of the damage dealt by his Infused Eternal Scepter.

Major perks — level 3

  • Transfusion reduces Infuse’s cooldown through damage and healing dealt.
  • Cost of Life removes 25 maximum health but increases Eternal Scepter healing by 20%.

How Doctrine plays

Eternal Scepter follows the same broad idea as the primary weapons used by Juno, Ana and Jetpack Cat: one firing mode can heal teammates or harm opponents. That shared function makes Doctrine more approachable, while Infuse gives experienced players a reason to plan each empowered action.

Shrouded Momentum provides an escape and repositioning tool comparable to Reaper’s Wraith Form, although its horizontal rush and Infused flight create a different movement profile. Invigorating Drones offers another way to support an ally, with the empowered version adding self-healing at the same time.

The perk system introduces meaningful compromises. At level 2, players must decide which healing benefit best suits their approach. At level 3, the choice between faster Infuse recovery and sacrificing maximum health for stronger Eternal Scepter healing may be especially difficult, particularly because Infuse appeared to have a long cooldown in the trial build.
