Nintendo has revealed very little about its upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. After a brief teaser last month, the game is still expected to launch on Switch 2 later this year, but its details and release date remain unclear.
A newly listed ESRB rating has now given fans one small detail to examine: the remake is rated E10+ for “Animated Blood” and “Fantasy Violence”. That classification is unsurprising for a game built around sword combat, enemies and fantasy battles.
Nintendo quietly updated the official store page with the rating on 29 July. The change has attracted attention because the Nintendo 3DS version carried an additional “Suggestive Themes” descriptor alongside the same blood and violence warnings.
Why the missing warning matters
The Nintendo 64 release was rated E because the E10+ category did not exist when the game launched in 1998. A later rating change therefore does not automatically indicate a content edit. The original game was also given an E rating for its Wii Virtual Console release, with no suggestive-themes warning.
Even so, the difference between the 3DS rating and the newly listed remake rating has prompted speculation about possible visual changes. Some fans suspect the Great Fairies could be redesigned, particularly if the remake presents Hyrule with a more modern or realistic art direction.
The concern is linked to how the 3DS rating described several female characters: “depicted from low camera angles and dressed in outfits that display moderate amounts of cleavage”. That wording appears to explain why the remaster received its suggestive-themes notice.

Other theories suggest that Nintendo could adjust particular locations or lines if the remake takes a darker or more mature approach. None of those changes has been confirmed, however, and the rating alone cannot establish what has been altered.
Could Breath of the Wild offer a clue?
One useful comparison is Breath of the Wild, where the fairies have a different visual presentation. Fans can review how those fairies were portrayed in that game, while footage has also been used to argue that the fairies weren’t altered in another version of Ocarina of Time.
That comparison has led some players to wonder whether the remake’s Great Fairies might receive a similar redesign or more modest costumes. It remains only a theory, but it would provide a straightforward explanation for a rating that omits the 3DS version’s suggestive-themes description.
For now, the rating may mean nothing more than a revised classification for a familiar adventure. Nintendo has not shown enough of the remake to confirm changes to the fairies, dialogue or any other potentially sensitive material.
