A small fashion detail from Tetsuya Nomura has given fans another reason to speculate about Kingdom Hearts 4. At a D23 event, the game director and designer wore a shirt featuring the words “Black Honey Chili Cookie”.

Nomura is closely associated with stylish Square Enix series including Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy and The World Ends with You. The shirt’s design was identified by NØCTO, which shared an image of Nomura wearing the B.H.C.C 2020 Logo Tee on August 16, 2026.

Black Honey Chili Cookie is not a secret activation phrase. It is a real-life fashion brand and also a name that appears in The World Ends with You.

The connection has naturally sent fans looking for possible links between the shirt and Kingdom Hearts 4. If characters from The World Ends with You appear in the upcoming RPG, their inclusion would continue the series’ interest in less obvious corners of its wider universe.

Why The World Ends with You fits Kingdom Hearts 4

The original The World Ends with You launched on Nintendo DS in 2007 and was popular and well received. Its 2021 sequel did not make the same immediate impact, passing relatively quickly despite the series later developing a dedicated cult following within Square Enix’s RPG catalogue.

That devoted audience would likely welcome the return of its characters, particularly because Kingdom Hearts has already established a connection. Several The World Ends with You characters appeared as prominent non-player characters in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, making another crossover a familiar possibility rather than a completely new direction.

Based on the Kingdom Hearts 4 material released so far, the non-Disney side of the game appears willing to revisit deep-cut references. Characters associated with lesser-known releases such as Kingdom Hearts Union χ have reportedly drawn attention, and The World Ends with You could sit comfortably alongside those connections.

A clue, or simply a friend’s brand?

There is an important reason not to treat the shirt as confirmation. Nomura is friends with Hiromu Takahara, the real-life creator of the Black Honey Chili Cookie fashion brand. Takahara was also featured as a non-player character in The World Ends with You.

That leaves two straightforward explanations: Nomura may be hinting at something planned for Kingdom Hearts 4, or he may simply be supporting a friend’s label. His distinctive fashion choices make either interpretation plausible.

For now, the shirt is only an intriguing detail rather than evidence of a confirmed crossover. Still, it has given fans another thread to follow while they examine every corner of the next arcade and gaming news update.
