Noah Wyle Will Play Captain Kirk in a One-Night Star Trek Reading
For one evening, The Pitt star Noah Wyle will leave the emergency department behind to command the U.S.S. Enterprise as Captain James T. Kirk.
Wyle is part of WGF RetroReads Presents: Star Trek 60th, a benefit staged by the Writers Guild Foundation. The event will feature a live reading of “The Man Trap”, the first Star Trek episode to air, with proceeds supporting the Foundation’s work.
A live reading of “The Man Trap”
The script will come from the Foundation’s archive. “The Man Trap” was also included in series creator Gene Roddenberry’s original pitch for Star Trek. Its story follows Kirk, Spock and other Enterprise crew members as they visit an isolated outpost and encounter a shapeshifting monster.
The choice has a clear anniversary connection. Star Trek premiered in 1966, the same year the Writers Guild Foundation was established, and Roddenberry served as one of the organisation’s founding board members.
The Pitt cast joins Wyle on the bridge
Taylor Dearden, who plays Mel in The Pitt, will perform as Spock. Other participating cast members include Katherine LaNasa as Dana, Fiona Dourif as Dr. McKay, Shabana Azeez as Dr. Javadi and Ayesha Harris as Dr. Ellis. Their characters for the benefit reading have not yet been announced.
The production will include a live musical score and a replica of the Salt Vampire, the creature from “The Man Trap”. The replica is being loaned by the Star Trek Archive.

A changing television era for Star Trek
At present, only two Star Trek series are on air: Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy. Strange New Worlds is set to finish with its fifth season, while Starfleet Academy will conclude after its second.
Once both series have ended, television will be without an active Star Trek show for the first time since 2017. That makes this live celebration of the franchise’s earliest episode a timely way to revisit its beginnings.
