Nexus Mods, one of the largest and most widely used video game modding platforms, has acquired SteamDB, the independent Steam database and player-count service. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
SteamDB will retain its existing name, brand, community and identity. Its founder and sole operator, xPaw, is leaving ownership but will support Nexus Mods during the coming months to help complete the handover.

He said that the changes to the internet following COVID, together with the growth of AI, had affected his enthusiasm for the project. Although he continued working through burnout, he ultimately decided that Nexus Mods was the right organisation to take SteamDB forward.

What Nexus Mods gains from SteamDB
Victor “Foledinho” Folmann, who became Nexus Mods’ owner after replacing Robin “Dark0ne” Scott in June 2025, said SteamDB’s extensive historical archive was a major reason for the acquisition.
That archive includes information about Steam game builds, depots, manifests, files and update history, including data from older versions. This matters to mod creators because a game update can break a modification that worked correctly the day before.
Folmann said connecting SteamDB’s version history with modding tools and mod metadata could make the process more dependable. In practical terms, that could help creators identify the game version their work requires and respond more effectively when updates alter files or builds.
