Could the StarCraft universe be heading towards two new games? One may come from Blizzard, while the other is reportedly being pursued by Nexon, the publisher behind Arc Raiders.
A report from South Korean newspaper Chosun, as reported via Wccftech, claims Nexon is seeking a licence from Blizzard to develop a new StarCraft title. The report cites a “senior gaming official” who says an agreement covering the intellectual property may be close to completion.
The prospect arrives almost three decades after the original StarCraft launched in 1998. Blizzard released StarCraft II in 2010 and StarCraft: Remastered in 2017, but the long-running strategy series has otherwise seen little major activity in recent years.

The franchise remains particularly strong in South Korea. The report says StarCraft continues to place among the 10 most-played games in the country’s internet cafés. That enduring audience could make a new licensed project an attractive opportunity for Nexon and Blizzard.

GenAI concerns may follow the project
Any Nexon-developed StarCraft game would also face questions about generative artificial intelligence in game production. Nexon CEO Junghun Lee has previously argued that people should assume every game company uses the technology, saying it has improved efficiency in game development and live-service operations.
That position could create scrutiny around a potential deal. Blizzard may choose to include conditions addressing genAI use, particularly if either company wants to avoid controversy during development.
Blizzard is reportedly making its own spin-off
Separately, Blizzard is reportedly developing a StarCraft spin-off of its own. The project is said to be an open-world shooter, although it is not believed to be close to release. There is a possibility that it could be shown at BlizzCon 2026 later this month.
