Monster Hunter Wilds has received an official demo approximately 18 months after Capcom launched the action RPG on 28 February 2025. For Australian players still deciding whether to buy it, the trial offers a substantial introduction to the game.
What the Monster Hunter Wilds demo includes
The Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo covers the opening section of the campaign. Players can create both their Hunter and Palico, the series’ feline companion.
Content runs from the beginning of the game through Chapter 1–3: To the Forest, which is the fifth mission. That provides several hours to explore the setting, learn the combat systems and decide whether Wilds suits your play style.
Demo limitations and progress carry-over
Progress made in the demo transfers to the full game if you later purchase it. However, the trial leaves out two notable features:
- Photo mode: the demo does not include the feature for creating posed images of your customised Hunter.
- Online play: all online functionality is unavailable, so the prologue missions cannot be tackled with friends.
The missing multiplayer option may not affect the opening hours dramatically, but it means the demo does not show the series’ full cooperative gameplay loop.
New editions and upcoming expansion
The demo arrives alongside a simplified Monster Hunter Wilds product range. Capcom has consolidated the available versions, with the $79.99 Gold Edition bundling several downloadable content and cosmetic add-ons.
The standard game has been reduced to $39.99. A paid expansion titled Ascendance is planned for release in 2027.

Platforms
Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. A Nintendo Switch 2 edition is currently in development.
