Modern Warfare 4 adds cash-based Collateral mode

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is introducing Collateral, a competitive multiplayer mode that adds an in-match economy to the series’ Search and Destroy format. Players begin with limited equipment, earn money during rounds and decide when to invest in better weapons and gear.

Activision outlined Collateral in a blog post focused mainly on the game’s PC features. The same announcement highlighted more than 800 customisation options, an integrated performance benchmark, and support for DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR Redstone. Activision revealed Collateral in its new blog post.

The mode’s economy gives each round added strategic weight. A costly purchase may improve a team’s immediate chances, but losing that equipment can make the following round more difficult.

How Collateral works

Collateral keeps the core structure of Search and Destroy. Teams take turns attacking and defending two bomb sites, but players no longer enter every round with a fixed custom loadout. Everyone starts with a pistol and must build their arsenal using cash earned in the match.

Eliminating opponents and contributing to the objective generates money. Between rounds, players can spend it on armour, perks, equipment and increasingly powerful firearms. The listed choices include grenades, a Riot Shield, several pistol types, shotguns, light machine guns, submachine guns, rifles and sniper rifles. Teammates can also combine their funds to purchase a UAV.

Collateral removes several features normally associated with Call of Duty. There are no respawns, Killstreaks, automatic health regeneration or custom loadouts. Death also costs the player the equipment bought for that round, although saved cash carries forward.

That combination should give Collateral a distinct identity alongside standard Search and Destroy. Its round-based structure remains familiar, while the purchasing system introduces the risk management and economic choices associated with competitive tactical shooters.

What has been confirmed so far

Activision has not yet provided a full breakdown of the mode, with more Collateral details promised closer to launch. Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to arrive on 23 October 2026.
