Mister Miracle series: cast, story and release plans

DC Studios has revealed its first substantial details about the upcoming Mister Miracle animated series, including its two lead actors, creative direction, episode count and current release target.
The first promotional image shows Mister Miracle facing Big Barda, while a looming Darkseid silhouette appears behind them. The artwork offers an early glimpse of the series’ cosmic setting and central relationship.
Who is in the Mister Miracle cast?
Josh Hutcherson, known for The Hunger Games, will voice Scott Free, the hero better known as Mister Miracle. Mackenzie Davis, whose credits include Below and Station Eleven, will play Big Barda.
The casting was confirmed by DC Studios co-head James Gunn after co-head Peter Safran initially discussed the two performers. Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are producing the show.
Comic writer Tom King will lead the series. He and artist Mitch Gerads created the Eisner-winning Mister Miracle comic, which ran for 12 issues from 2017 to 2019. King has also co-written and co-created the television series Lanterns.
How many episodes will the series have?
The planned first season consists of eight episodes, each running for 30 minutes. Safran has indicated that the story could continue across additional seasons, although no further season has been confirmed.
DC Studios is currently aiming for a 2028 premiere. No more specific release date has been announced.

What is Mister Miracle about?
Scott Free is a New God, a member of an alien species with functional immortality. After leaving Apokolips, he attempts to build a life on Earth with Big Barda, another former resident of the world ruled by Darkseid.
Scott performs as Mister Miracle, using his extraordinary escape skills and acrobatics in a stage career. His reputation eventually brings him to the attention of the Justice League.
Scott Free is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. He escaped Granny Goodness’ brutal orphanage and the dangers of Apokolips before travelling across galaxies to begin a new life on Earth with Big Barda, the former Female Fury. As Mister Miracle, he turns his escape techniques into a career and becomes associated with the Justice League.
Despite mastering illusions, stunts and seemingly impossible escapes, Scott has never escaped death. To discover whether that final escape is possible, he may have to kill himself.
The premise combines cosmic superhero drama, an unusual marriage story and questions about mortality. King’s 2017 comic serves as the source material for the television adaptation.
Other DC projects in development
DC Studios has several other announced projects on its slate. The horror film Clayface is scheduled for 23 October, while the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow is planned for 9 July 2027.
Outside the main DCU, The Batman Part 2 is targeted for 18 February 2028. Television projects include the mockumentary-style series The People v. Gorilla Grodd, planned for mid-2027.
Other projects still in development without announced release dates include a Swamp Thing film and Batman’s The Brave and the Bold.
