DC Studios has confirmed the two principal actors for its animated Mister Miracle series, based on Tom King’s acclaimed 2017–2019 comic run. The project is one of several screen adaptations connected to King’s work, following the 2026 film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Josh Hutcherson, known for The Hunger Games and his extensive presence in internet meme culture, will voice Scott Free, the escape artist better known as Mister Miracle. Mackenzie Davis, whose credits include Station Eleven and Happiest Season, will play his warrior wife, Big Barda.
King has written all eight episodes of the animated series. He also recently served as co-creator of Lanterns. DC Studios co-head Peter Safran described the scripts as “dynamite” and said the team was excited about adapting what he called a beautiful book.
What is the Mister Miracle series about?
The story follows Scott Free, a world-famous escape artist whose carefully constructed life on Earth begins to collapse. While war spreads between Apocalypse and New Genesis, his adoptive father Darkseid appears to have obtained the Anti-Life Equation, a weapon capable of giving him control over the universe.
No prison can hold him. No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself? Something has gone horribly wrong with the perfect life that Scott and his warrior wife Big Barda have built for themselves on Earth. With war raging between their home worlds of Apocalypse and New Genesis, Scott’s cruel adoptive father, Darkseid, seems to have finally captured the Anti-Life Equation – the ultimate weapon that will give Darkseid total dominance over the universe. As the mountains of bodies on both sides grow ever higher, only Mister Miracle can stop the slaughter and restore peace. But the terrible power of the Anti-Life Equation may already be at work in his own mind, warping his reality, exposing his long-buried pain, and shattering the fragile happiness he’s found with the woman he loves. And so, begins the odyssey of Scott Free, Mister Miracle: a harrowing, hilarious, heart-wrenching journey across the pitfalls of the ordinary and extraordinary as the son of God raised by the devil tries to save his family, his world, and maybe even himself.

The Batman Part 2 is still moving forward
Safran also addressed the uncertain production status of Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part 2. Reeves temporarily stepped away after a family matter, bringing production to a halt earlier in the month. No date has been announced for filming to resume, prompting concern that the delayed sequel might not proceed.
Asked whether there was any scenario in which production would not restart, Safran answered, “No.” His response supports Robert Pattinson’s recent reassurance that the filmmakers would work through the situation. Pattinson made the comment while attending the red-carpet event for his film Primetime.
More DC projects in development
Safran’s other updates included confirmation that an animated Absolute Batman series is in early development. Scott Snyder is writing scripts for the project. James Gunn, Safran’s co-head at DC Studios, has not selected his next directing assignment, although Gunn has said he has already begun writing something new.
