Two acclaimed Middle-earth action games are heading to Nintendo Switch 2, with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War listed for release on September 30. The Switch 2 versions appeared on the eShop without an earlier announcement.

The listings were first spotted by a Reddit user and subsequently confirmed through the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop. The discovery was also shared in the Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War for Switch 2 discussion by u/EdgeProfessional6755 in the NintendoSwitch2 community.

Aspyr, the studio behind ports including Tomb Raider and Star Wars titles, also released a short trailer during the reporting of the announcement.

Switch 2 pricing and included content

The standard price is $20 for Shadow of Mordor and $50 for Shadow of War. A $70 bundle includes both games. For the first two weeks, promotional pricing reduces the individual games to $10 and $25, while the two-game bundle costs $35.

Both releases include their expansion content and Season Pass material. That gives Switch 2 players the complete versions of each game, although the pricing may look less competitive when compared with the frequent discounts available on PC.

Why the Middle-earth games remain notable

Shadow of Mordor launched in 2014, followed by Shadow of War in 2017. Both games have previously been available on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, where they earned broad praise from critics and players.

The defining feature of both adventures is the Nemesis system. Enemies can survive encounters, grow more powerful, remember previous battles and respond to the player’s tactics in later confrontations. That evolving relationship gives repeated encounters consequences beyond a single fight.

These ports mark the first appearance of either game on a Nintendo system. Fans have requested that move for years, including through a dedicated campaign to bring Shadow of War to Nintendo Switch 2.
