Sony is releasing limited-edition PlayStation 5 hardware alongside Marvel’s Wolverine, but both featured consoles are digital-only models. That decision arrives after weeks of criticism surrounding the company’s move away from manufacturing physical game discs.
Wolverine-themed PS5 launches in two finishes
The console plates feature Wolverine’s furious expression and claw-like slash marks across the design. Matching DualSense controllers will also be available in two colour schemes: Battle Yellow, inspired by the character’s suit, and Adamantium Silver, based on Logan’s metal claws.
Pre-orders open on 19 August at 10 am local time, with the hardware launching on 15 September alongside the game. Battle Yellow hardware will be sold through selected retailers, while the Adamantium Silver edition will be exclusive to PlayStation’s direct store.
No disc-drive Wolverine console
The limited-edition consoles do not include a built-in disc drive. Buyers seeking a physical copy of Marvel’s Wolverine or other disc-based games will therefore need to purchase a compatible console separately.
Sony will sell Wolverine-themed covers separately for both digital and disc-drive PS5 consoles. These covers are compatible only with the Slim PS5 model introduced in 2023. The source material also lists a $650 console price and an additional $75 for the covers when choosing a disc-drive setup; these figures are presented in US dollars.
