VisionQuest brings Vision’s strange story to a close

Marvel Studios has shown the first trailer for VisionQuest, the final chapter in the television trilogy that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024. The preview debuted at D23 on Friday and follows Vision after his departure from Westview.

Paul Bettany returns as Vision, a character still searching for answers about his identity, his past and the family connected to him. The trailer suggests that his journey will be just as psychologically unusual as Wanda Maximoff’s and Agatha Harkness’ recent stories.

Although the trailer offers brief glimpses of Vision in his familiar robotic, superhuman form, much of the artificial intelligence in the series appears through human avatars. That includes James Spader’s Ultron, who looks like James Spader rather than a traditional robot.

The result is an unusually offbeat continuation of the Marvel Television storyline. Vision is dealing with the reality of his own existence while also confronting questions about his offspring, giving the series a distinctly surreal tone.

Marvel’s synopsis sets up a fugitive story. Vision has been rebooted and is hiding after escaping people who wanted to weaponise him. He turns to the AI personalities built into his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron.

Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron’s influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
